Frequently Asked Questions

Nearly every PM interview draws from the same question types: product design ("How would you improve Google Maps?"), product strategy, product improvement, metrics, estimation, execution, and behavioral questions about your past work. Each company weights them differently. Google leans on product design and estimation, Meta tests product sense and execution, and Amazon builds most of its loop around behavioral questions tied to its leadership principles. Filter this page by company or question type to see what your target company actually asks.

Most candidates need four to eight weeks. Start with the companies you're targeting, learn which question types they favor, and practice answering real questions out loud under time pressure. Writing notes is not enough; the thinking-on-your-feet part is what fails people. Compare your answers with ones other PMs have upvoted, and book a few mock interviews near the end of your prep. If you're short on time, prioritize product design and metrics questions, since they appear in almost every interview loop.

Use a structure, but don't recite it. For product design questions, a framework like CIRCLES helps you cover users, pain points, and solutions in a sensible order. Behavioral questions work best in STAR format (situation, task, action, result), ideally with a concrete number in the result. For metrics and estimation questions, state your assumptions before you calculate. Interviewers care less about landing the "right" answer than about how you scope the problem and defend your trade-offs. If you want this taught end to end, the PM Interview Course included in our Interview Prep plan walks through every question type with video lessons and worked answers.

Expect a recruiter screen, one or two video interviews with PMs, then a final onsite loop of four to five sessions, each scoring a different skill: product sense, execution, analytics, and behavioral. End to end, the process usually takes four to eight weeks. Larger companies like Google add a hiring-committee review after the loop, so allow extra time before you hear a decision.
