Why should I sign up for Product Management Exercises?
Product Management Exercises has been designed for the unique needs of product managers (experienced and aspiring) preparing for PM interviews. The platform has been created by Bijan Shahrokhi, based on his +20,000 hours of experience as a product manager. Bijan’s last job was Head of Product at a tech company in San Francisco. He has interviewed many PM candidates and is well familiar with the criteria of a good PM.
I'm worried about my privacy. Can I hide my real identity on the site?
Yes. You can create an anonymous username (e.g. pm3493). You don't have to have a LinkedIn profile or a picture to use Product Management Exercises. It’s optional.
I am new to product management. Can I still benefit from this?
Yes. There is a lot of learning material for both aspiring product managers and experienced product managers.
What makes PM Exercises different from other sites?
A few things:
What are your free and paid services?
The free account gains access to 30+ product manager interview questions. Free accounts enjoy 2 hours of prep course material which includes interview guides and tips for Product Sense and Execution questions. Premium members pay a total of $149 per year to gain access to over 2,000 interview questions, an interview prep course taught by Bijan Shahrokhi, an experienced product leader, and access to a weekly group QA with an expert PM (usually Bijan himself). We also offer private coaching services with expert PM’s who will help you prepare for your PM job interviews. You can learn more about our pricing packages here.
Are the interview questions posted on this website real interview questions?
Yes. Each interview question posted on the website is carefully vetted and approved by PM Exercises. Any made up interview questions are removed.
Can I use PM Exercises to help me prepare for interviewing at companies other than Google, Facebook, and other big tech firms?
Absolutely. The interview process for a technology based product role is more or less the same at almost any company that follows best practices in their product development process. Even startups and large non-tech corporations such as banks have started following similar interview processes and formats - although their interview process will likely not be as intense as that of a big tech company. Think of it this way. If you prepare yourself to do well in a PM job interview at a top tech company such as Google or Facebook, you will most likely do well in a PM job interview at any company. It's like practicing for the Olympics. Once you're ready for the Olympics, you can win most (if not all) local competitions.
How long will it take me to prepare for product manager job interviews?
It really depends on your experience and availability over the next few days. For someone with less familiarity with PM interview frameworks, expect that it takes 4 to 6 weeks of 1 to 3 hours daily practice to become well prepared for a PM job interview. It just takes a lot of practice. PM Exercises provides you with the learning material you would need to prepare for your interview.
My interview is coming up soon. What should I do?
If you think that you’re not ready for the interview, we strongly recommend you to postpone it. Recruiters are used to being asked for more time so don’t feel bad about it. Remember, your objective is to do well in the interview. PM Exercises can also help with more coaching to expedite your preparation but you still need to spend time to practice and get really comfortable with the interview frameworks.
What does the expert coaching offer?
All coaches will first want to gauge your skill level and areas for improvement. Depending on what you are looking to improve, coaches sometimes conduct a mock interview with you as a way to further evaluate your skills. Once they get a good understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, they use the remaining time in the session to give you feedback, relay your strengths and weaknesses, give you tips and tools to address your areas of improvement, and provide a working plan for you to prepare for your interviews. Depending on how the session goes, the interviewer might also advise you to book more sessions with them prior to your interviews. After the session, the coach will also send you a report which includes a summary of the session and their 360 evaluation of your performance. Any subsequent sessions will be customized to your needs. They may include mock interviews, focusing on a specific area such as brainstorming or progress status review or they spend time answering your QA questions about your practice and learning material.
What are Office Hours?
Office Hours is a weekly session open to all paid members of the PM Exercises community. Each Office Hours session is hosted by a seasoned PM or coach who will answer questions that members of the community may have about their upcoming or recent interviews. If there is time permitting, the host also holds a group practice session during Office Hours where they pick an interview question to solve together with everyone taking part in the session. Group practices are very interactive and are a great way to learn.
