Product Roadmap questions evaluate your ability to identify long-term opportunities for a technology product, develop a plan to achieve your product vision, and focus on what matters by cutting through various strategic choices

1. Describe the current state of the product Explain your view in areas such as:
  • Does the product have a large volume of users?
  • Is the company looking to expand the product user base?
  • Does the product have a product-market fit?
  • Does the company have financial resources to grow?
  • What does the company leadership think are its priorities?
  • Where is the product in terms of maturity?
  • Are there any particular market trends or recent developments that you have to pay special attention to?
2. Describe a product vision Develop a product vision that aligns with the realities of the business, the product, its users, and market.
3. Choose a short-term goal Determine a short-term goal that is driven by the current state of the company and the product vision.
4. Select metrics Choose the metrics that align with the goal you have selected, your resources, and the current state of the company.
5. Identify the associated user group(s) Determine the user group(s) that your product is going toserve over the next few months or years.
6. Identify the prioritized feature set Identify the pain points associated with your target user groups and describe which features should be built to solve those pain points.
7. Create your product roadmap Describe the sequence in which you plan to build the features. Outline your assumptions regarding the opinions of the engineering team, product design team, and other stakeholders.
