This is a product design qn:

Step 1: Obtain clarifications

a) Will this online map will be displayed over a monitor or over an app

Step 2:

Select user group

a) residents/office workers of the building

b) Emergency evacuation Pocs

c) facility maitenance to understand resident movement patterns

d) Electricity and power saving applications

I will select residents/office workers of the building as the user group

Step 3: Pain points

1) Where am I currently, how to get to a conference room or a unit?

2) Location of interests e.g. Gym, Cafeteria, first aid etc.

3) Tell someone that I am at a certain location so that the individual can come and meet me

4) Who all are present in office or working from home?

5) Help internal package delivery man find me

6) Ask for help if I am injured

7) Report a maintenance issue

8) Report a security issue

Step 4: Prioritize Pain points

Priority 1- High frequency, impact and relevance to company

1) Where am I currently, how to get to a conference room or a unit?

2) Location of interests e.g. Gym, Cafeteria, first aid etc.

3) Tell someone that I am at a certain location so that the individual can come and meet me

6) Ask for help if I am injured

Priority 2- Medium frequency and impact

7) Report a maintenance issue

8) Report a security issue

Priority 3-

5) Help internal package delivery man find me

4) Who all are present in office or working from home?

Step 5: Solutions

1) Creation of a mobile app that can use wifi and gps spots to pinpoint location

2) Users can search for a location and app provides a route to reach it

3) App tracks individual as they walk by the proposed route

4) App provides the total time and time left to reach the destination

5) App calls out the point of interests and then provides a route to reach the point of interests. It can also show pics and reviews of the point of interest

6) App highlights potential issues with the route e.g. slippery surface, low lighting,  rain, snow etc.

7) Allows user to search for another user and share his location

8) App then provides a route to that person' s location and  time taken

9) App provides an alarm function to let emergency responders know about the user's location and state.

Step 6: Prioritize solution

a) Priority 1- High Impact (basic and must have functionalities)

1) Creation of a mobile app that can use wifi and gps spots to pinpoint location

2) Users can search for a location and app provides a route to reach it

5) App calls out the point of interests and then provides a route to reach the point of interests. It can also show pics and reviews of the point of interest

9) App provides an alarm function to let emergency responders know about the user's location and state.

b) Priority 2- Medium Impact (Good to have functionalities)

3) App tracks individual as they walk by the proposed route --> These distances are usually 5-10 mins walking hence would not be an important feature

6) App highlights potential issues with the route e.g. slippery surface, low lighting,  rain, snow etc. --> Usually highlighted by maintenace team with yellow cones

7) Allows user to search for another user and share his location -->People can call and tell their location

c) Priority 3- Low Impact but Medium/High development cost

3) App tracks individual as they walk by the proposed route

4) App provides the total time and time left to reach the destination

8) App then provides a route to that person' s location and  time taken
