The process for defining any product strategy or roadmap starts with definition of

Step 1: Defining

1) Near term goal

2) Long term goal

Step 2: Use these goals to define the strategic imperatives of the company w.r.t primary and secondary goals e.g. revenue, user base, growth, profitability and competitiveness)

4) Metrics are defined w.r.t to evaluating the current direction of the product w.r.t. to these strategic imperatives

5) If we are unable to measure these strategic imperatives with the data that we have on hand then that would mean we are unable to measure the alignment fo the product with roadmap and thereby will be unsuccessful as a product manager
