clarifying questions:
  1. elderly can be anywhere between 65+ . some are in excellent health while others need additional help. who are we designing for ?  - you choose.
  2. is this a nearby kroger kind of neighborhood grocery store? - sure.
  3. when we mean by grocery - it is purely meat and produce or more of a general purpose stores like medicines, frozen food etc. - you choose
  4. any resource or time constraints ? - no
goal/mission -  empower elderly people to conveniently shop their day to days needs at reasonable price.

user groups -
  1. independent / highly fit - bigger market
  2. independent / somewhat healthy - underserved
    1. wheel chair - we will focus on this segment as this is also a bigger TAM and also underserved.
    2. somewhat blind
  3. completely dependent on others
  4. kids, support people
we will focus on elderly people who want to be independent and be able to come on wheel chairs to the grocery store.

painpoints -
  1. cart carrying experience (Medium TAM, High Frequency, Yes-Alternatives)
    1. not enough shopping carts to go with the wheelchair. (Medium TAM, High Frequency, Yes-Alternatives)
    2. cannot carry wheel carts or trolley or does not easily work with the shopping carts  (Medium TAM, High Frequency, Yes-Alternatives)
    3.
  2. shopping experience is challenging
    1. produce is kept far away that they need to call someone to get them.(High TAM, High Frequency, No-Alternatives)
    2. food at the bottom of the carts are not accessible. (High TAM, High Frequency, No-Alternatives)
    3. someone need to help them load juice or milk into the cart. (High TAM, High Frequency, No-Alternatives)
  3. checkout experience is challenging (Small TAM, medium frequency, Yes-alternatives)
    1. they cannot easily checkout because experience is poor. they have to unload the carts and someone need to load them.
    2. they might not be able to easily read the prints (including expiry, cost)
  4. purchase food that is healthy tor them - they need specific quantity of vitamin or minerals a ttheir age. they do not know which food gives them. - High TAM, High frequency, No Alternatives. but has regulatory challenges. so, we will revisit this after MVP.

I will evaluate the below problems in these 3 dimensions
how many people face this problem (High TAM)
how frequently does this problem occur (high frequency),
is there an alternative exists for this problem (Yes, No)

focusing on elderly people to easily do add or remove food into the carts while on their wheel chairs.

solutions, tradeoff & metrics  -
  1. adjustable racks so they can lift carts in the bottom -
    1. high impact, high effort , medium cost.
    2. trade-off: high maintenance,
  2. offer personal valet for everyone.
    1. medium impact, low effort. high cost
  3. mountable ipad like screen and flexible barcode scanner that users can use while on the wheel chair.  users can simply scan the item while driving through the wheel chair. item will arrive at pickup place. users can then view it and then decide to head to the checkout.
    1. high impact, high effort, medium cost
i will choose solution 3 because this has lower trade-offs and allows us to build additional capabilities such as custom health specific food recommendations etc.

summary: we want to design a grocery store for elderly people. we decided to focus on eliderly who are primarily use wheel chairs and want to shop on their own. our solution will be to all customers will get a ipad screen and barcode scanner. they can choose an item and add the quantity . someone will pick it up and keep them at the checkout.

for my MVP,  will offer a personal valet to get them
