Why I love:

  1. Functionality
  2. Deeper Engagement
  3. NFR

Why My Friends Won’t Adopt It:
Despite the benefits, I've struggled to get friends (even fellow readers) to adopt it. Here's why:

  1. Perceived Overhead: They see it as "extra work", needing to highlight, tag, sync, etc., without a clear, immediate ROI.

  2. Delayed Gratification: The value builds over time. People prefer immediate utility vs. long-term accumulation of insights.

  3. Not Social: There's no network effect. Sharing highlights or connecting learning is a solo pursuit.

  4. Niche Targeting: It appeals to knowledge workers, productivity nerds, and researchers — not casual users.

How I'd Improve Adoption:

  1. Simplify Onboarding: Show instant value — e.g., pull 5 great Kindle highlights and auto-summarize them for the user within a minute of signup.

  2. Gamify Retention: Create streaks or quizzes from your own highlights — help learning feel active.

  3. Social Layer: Let users subscribe to “highlight channels” from authors, influencers, or friends — similar to how Goodreads connects readers.

  4. Leverage AI: Auto-summarize key ideas across your books/articles monthly and make them shareable — making it easier to talk about what you’re learning.

My favorite product is Google Home.

Google Home allows me to programmatically control various home activities such as managing temperate, lights, home security, music etc.

The product integrates closely with Google assistant and Google products such as youtube

I am in the user group of millenials. This user group has the following pain points with adoption of home automation systems

1) I dont know understand how the system operates

2) It cannot be as specific to my needs as human operation

3) Set up and maintenance is tough

4) Its expensive w.r.t to its perceived value

5) Concern about Google stealing my data to sell me products

6) It might result in unexpected behaviour

What is the solution:

1) Simple and Intuitive UI- That simplifies set up of the process and also demonstrates working of the process in a simple workflow e.g. the way Toyota Prius show how the car is generating power to move forward

2) Allow for significant human intervention rather than making human intervention difficult. This will give confidence to the user that he/she is in full control of the process

3) Show alerts w.r.t savings in terms if power, water every month. This will show that system is paying for itself in terms of its perceived value

4) Transparency from Google on points of data collection and getting consent to use the data (like apple)
