Clarify: do you have a platform in mind? No. What about users ... are there demographic splits you want to target? Totally up to you. OK, then how about goals like acquiring new users or engagement? This is totally up to you. Alright, finally any region constraint? Nope, assume this product will work all over the world.
Thanks, would you mind giving me a couple of minutes to collect my thoughts? I would like to identify the goal of this product, then list out potential users and their pain points that the product can solve for. Sure, take your time.
Users:
I can list out ... individual travelers, family travelers, business travelers, travel agents, airline companies, car companies, cruise line operators, and hotel companies for example that can be part of this product. I would like to zero in on travelers as the mission of facebook is to allow people to make new connections and I think the goal here is to allow travelers to connect to have a better vacation. The other users already have existing tools to showcase their products and their goals are primarily to sell and promote, so I feel this product will also in this case work better for travelers. Business travelers also have existing tools alraedy and their objective is to go somewhere and just get work done so they may not benefit as much, and family travelers are already experiencing th trip as a group so it may not be as relevant
- Let's take individual travelers and then list out the number of pain points for this group:
1 - If I am an individual traveler I would usually book individually based on recommendations or friends experiences, but I will go on this trip on my own and experience everything myself so there isn't much I can share anything with.
2 - If I am an individual traveler I would also don't really have anyone to talk to while I am on the trip, and meeting random strangers isn't to everyone's cup of tea - is there away to break this ice?
3 - I go buy everything and book everything myself and it's a very siloéd type of experience. Maybe I can find others who might be booking a similar trip and get their thoughts?
4 - Once I am there, everything that I do is pretty much a lonely experience. While it can still be invigorating I can't share my experience with anyone
5- What about safety? OK if I am Dwayne the Rock Johnson I might be OK but if I go somewhere and it's just myself I can be a target for pick pocketing or robbery. Neither of which are fun and a group will make this safer
Out of all of the pain points, I would like to focus on #5 as that is often a real problem for individual travelers who are often targeted for theft related crimes.
May I have a minute or two to brainstorm a frew solutions, and prioritize them based on impact? Sure.
OK, I will list out a list of solutions below and prioritize based on H/L factor on impact and level of effort
1 - Have a VR solution to allow interested individuals to meet virtually and plan their vacation in a VR experience, whlie at the same time also get to meet whom they will plan and potentially travel with
(H/H)
2 - Build a "travel together" type of feature to allow individuals to connect based on their facebook accounts. Travelers can post/share itineraries and allow others to join (M/L)
3 - Leverage the mark as safe feature that is used in FB for major incidents and allow the user to mark them anytime, leveraging location and time to match up with their itinerary and show that privately to friends to broadcast their safety status (M/M)
Out of the solutions above I would go with #1 as that should give the highest impact in terms of user experience, and allows potential travelers to connect with each other to experience a "snippet" of their planned trip and also see if they feel safe and comfortable traveling with each other beforehand. Drawback of this solution is some users may feel the VR experience maybe enough to perhaps to change their original plans, or they may meet somewhat that they are uncomfortable with and thus have to leave either FB to avoid being stalked or change their itinerary.
OK, interviewer, if you want me to dive down to how to launch it or measure success let's make it another question!
