Tell me about a time when you couldn't meet your deadline.

Situation- I was once assigned as a product manager for a SVOD app similar to Netflix for my media client. They had some old content that they wanted to monetize as well as create engagement for a future larger product. The product development was split into front end development and pipeline upgradation. I was assigned to front development. The front end development was on track, there were considerable delays in backend pipeline development

Task- To keep the release timelines for MVP and maintain targets for user base

Action-

Step 1- Revisit feature prioritization for front end, cut down P2 features e.g. carousal, recommendations engine etc.

Step 2- Develop an alterative e.g. static page with direct download and playback from cloud storage

Step 3- Work with marketing and sales to revisit customer communication and targeting plan

Step 4- Set expectation with the business team on revisiting achievement of metrics and alignment with near and long term goals

Result- The product was still released in the provided timeline with pared down functionalities . The product was eventually decommissioned due to high investments required and larger alternative product in the pipeline
