Clarification:
What is the goal here ?
Any specific country ?
Any size /other constraint
Assumption : Better employee experience (additional perk google is providing) and reduce cost overhead.
Revised question: Design a residential apartment for Google for better employee experience
Location: MTV US
Users:
Travelling Googler: Google has office across the world and many googler travels to MTV for Projects/Offsite/Summits
Interns: Many people relocate for 6 months for internship. So lot of logistics need to be planned for 6 months in new city
Young Full Time Employee( FTE) without Family
FTE with Family and kids
Locals
My design will focus on Travelling Googlers, as I see 10 % of my team always IN MTV for summit/Offsites etch in a month. Google employee strength: 60,000 and 30 -40% outside US: 20000 and in a given month 5-10 % would be travelling to US ~1000-2000. ( as intern needs are similar, the second user base that can be used are interns). There are many outside MTV so within US also there will be some travel: ~2500 people per month
Opt Out:
1.Family with kids and locals will need a lot of other criteria like houses near school and spouse jobs etc.
2. Young FTEs: As this is long term , they would prefer to stay in different places, some like cities.
As a pilot i would cater PO : Traveller and P1:Intern user and confirm with interviewer if any other user segment they would like to focus on
User Journey / Problem faced currently
Interns:
Need
Initial set up: As generally internship is for 6 months, There is a lot of logistics that needs to be planned for a short time in a new place.
Ease: Want to be ahead of the curve as good performance here can turn to offer. So do not want to spend time on Transportation and cooking
Social/Network : Would like to hangout with other interns with similar interest.
Traveller:
Google provides G Suite, though with below issues
Coordination effort in opening the door, sometime if things not planned well (Similar to air bnb though there is front desk but it opens at 9:00 am and many international flight reaches around 6:0 am)
It takes effort to understand where your room is , locate the room and find the room lock key. After a long trip it is again not a great experience.
Food needs to be arranged.Sometimes when tired after international travel its pain to go out and eat and not all the food order app installed.Though as a new place , some people would like to explore the city and eat out
Not located very near/ walking distance to the office.
Frequent travellers prefer hotel points for future travel ( Loyalty program)
Need
Ease: Not to spend time on transportation to office and can have food on demand basis
Social: Find company to hangout with and explore places on weekend ( If not already travelling in a group)
List solution
Assumption: This already has a kitchen with 1bed room and 2 bed room apartments with general residential need. Listing changes specific to Googfle only
Better Check In experience
24/7 Front desk and eazy check ins to room
Wifi should be google wifi with auto connected when switched on the wifi. No separate password, Room no details to be added.
Convenient Stay
Location: In the campus area itself, so it would be like a university hostel with less transportation and food at walkable distance.
There can be micro Kitchens on each floor to cater the need.
Nearby Grocery store to cater the immediate need
Cater emotional need(Belonging)
Lounges /common areas/Games room for social networking
Community :. This can be supported by app where all the apartment user can post any inquiry about facility, places nearby, if somebody is planning a trip and if somebody wants to join, for e,g create a trip for 5 person and people can join etc). Different clubs like Hiking/reading etc for interns as their stay will be longer. Some park or walking area/nature trail to unwind. Its like home away from home and getting again community warmth where you don't feel lonely by just sitting/chatting with someone in lounge or can make friends for life
Personalized service: Based on visits, If we know the googler and its preference. For e.g the person loves trips and has arrived on saturday, There is a trip plan tomorrow and if he would like to join. People going to factory stores and if they want to join.
Others: If occupancy is not higher
Many times during offsite Locals don't get to travel. It would be fun to offsite stay arranged for locals top completely be and gell with the team.
Metrics: I will check the occupancy and % of travellers / interns preferring this over other available options:
