I am a BA for a team. For past few sprints, I was experiencing delay in stories being completed. And this was misaligning the entire timeline.
I had to find out what is happening and what is the root cause of the problem.
So I started scheduling meeting with devs, QA, architect about this.
Doing a 5 whys root cause analysis comes handy in such sitautions:
- Why delay?
because stories are not getting completed within sprint.
- Why not?
because stories turn out more complex and this complexity is not caught during grooming. Basically incorrect estimation.
- Why not able to estimate correctly?
because design changes after dev codes the feature and ask for review, at that point architect looks into design and its efficiency and pushes it back if not meets expectations.
- Why design is not decided before development?

So I schedule meeting with tech leads and architect to have design discussions prior to development and conclude on a framework before estimation and development.
This showed immediate results, stories started getting correctly estimated and devs start asking for designs prior to coding.
