Estimate the number of coconuts sold in India.

Taking in to consideration the assumptions listed i am only considering the consumption at customer level and not at the industrial level,I would like to start my answer by following a bottom up approach.

focussing on a consumption at a district level and then summing up at state level.

Total states in India = 28 + 8 UT

Considering the consumption is higher in southern and coastal states compared to northern states.

So fine tuning the formula , Sothern and coastal states = A.P+T.N+Karnataka+Kerela +Maharahtra+Goa+Gujrat

Rest of the northern states = 21 +8 UT

Assuming each state has on an average 20 districts and each district population is 2lks.

Average family size =4

Higher consumption state calculation 

1. Assuming 50% of families buy coconut every day and average count per family is 2.

2.Total no of families in a district buying coconut = 0.5*50,000*2 =50,000 

3. Overall state wise consumption = 7*20*50,000 = 70 lks

Rest of the state calculation 

1. Assuming 20% of families buy coconut every day and average count per family is 1.

2.Total no of families in a district buying coconut = 0.2*50,000*1 =10,000 

3. Overall state wise consumption = 29*20*10,000 = 38 lks

Total consumption in India = 108 lks

I could have done more segregation based on the family income , but just considered the overall percentage of population here.
