I was woking as Product manager of a fashion e-commerce company where my responsibility also included positioning of the e-commerce website and features those make us unique. Our -ecommerce company targeted women within 30-35 years of age with respective merchandise. But because of narrow target segment, we were not able to scale up and get the series B funding.
The task in hand was to sclae up the business and secure series B funding.
I came with an idea to include international merchansize through flash sales. The idea was perceived as detrimental as it was thought to appeal to men more and we would loose women customers who were our loyal customer base. I never thought the same based on my underatanding of target segment. On one hand, we would die if we dont scale up and on other hand we would die if we loose our loyal customer base during scale up process. But later would be due to me. But I had to take a decisive stand and my suggestion to management was to roll out internal brand with flash sale concept. Which we did though multiple deliberations.
Within span of 3 months we were able to double the top line as we increased both our customer base and avg order value. Our loyal base also loved the merchnadize. The result was immensly satisfying.
