Instagram is a social media platform for sharing photos and videos.it is a popular way to connect with brands, celebrities, thought leaders, friends, family and merchandisers etc.it has a vast array of features such as capturing photos, short-form videos, live streaming, shopping etc.

Mission: to capture and share the world’s moments

Goal: Grow the Active users including paid such as influencer and merchandiser and free users for Instagram

 Strategies to increase the userbase

Instagram is already in growth stage with 1 billion users but still there is scope for growth in userbase.

·         Improve the product discovery: Maximize the product visibility using the search engine optimization which will make the product easier to discover on Google/Bing web search, Play store, app store.

·         Simplify the sign-up process: instead of users create username and password specific for Instagram, we can use the existing google/apple/twitter/Tumblr accounts to sign-in which will lower the barrier to sign-up and drive the userbase.

·         Assistance Program for Elders: Create assistance program for Elders to use Direct messaging and Post feature like Google Assistance which will empower them to use Instagram like WhatsApp. This will create another userbase for Instagram.  

·         Location specific suggestions: Shared Photo/videos with location attracts the user to visit the locations. Instagram can tie-up with local tourist agency/Airbnb to help the user in visiting the locations with his friends/families which will grow the userbase.

·         Influencer based program: Encouraging Celebrities and thought leaders to share his moments and motivating thoughts specific to user on regular interval through short-form videos, live-streaming, posts will motivate user to engage with the Instagram. This will attract the more fans of influencer on Instagram.

·         Brand based program: Brand based Advertising program will attract more user towards its product and increase engagement with Brand. This will increase word-to-mouth referral program among Brand’s user which will increase userbase of Instagram.

·         Shopping Experience: Good shopping experience with latest trending items will increase engagement among users and continue engaging and purchasing product through Instagram. This will motivate another user to do shopping through Instagram hence increasing the userbase of Instagram.

I loved the structure and different strategies you have provided. My question is why you are not concentrating on low hanging fruits like product discovery, simple sign on and Assistance program for Elders as they have low cost, lower trade off and high impact

Framework: 

I would understand the pain points of users and zoom in and out of them. 

1. Zoom in  core users

2. Zoom out core users

3. Zoom in Non core users

4. zoom out Non core users

lets see pleasures and pains of each of them. so, we can try playing on our strengths and streamline the pain points. 

1. ZICU:

  •  Content creation
  •  following content or updates
  • messaging
  • Entertainment
  • shopping
  • audience on other platforms

2. ZOCU: 

  • they still use other platforms. ex: tinder, amazon, youtube, soundcloud, netflix. 
  • spending too much time on platform

3. ZINCU:

  • waste of time
  • other forms of content. ex: books, music, games etc..

4: ZONCU:

  • not on social media. never liked it. 
  • fans/cults of other apps
  • find it too distracting

Prioritization: 

all these looks reasonable but working on things with low effort and high return are encourages. 

also adding elements of joy, motivation would work for core users. 

so to working on providing other forms of content and also making a way to look at limited posts/reels would be helpful and users might find it less distracting. 

Summary: 

to improve the growth of users on instagram, we tried seeing the painpoints of both core and other users. from that we can see working on things that matter to bring users.
