Hey I would like to repeat the question so that i can know that we are on the same page.

Amazon has decided to enter the African Market and I have given a task to design it's home page.

Interviewer: "Yep, that's it"

Cool, I ll start with asking few clarifying questions.

Clarifying Questions:
1. Why are we entering the african market now?
2. Are we talking about only the e-commerce segment of amazon or other services as well?
3. What do you mean by African Market here, Are we planning to launch for entire africa at once or do we have any target geography in africa?
4. Do we have any competitors currently in this market?

So coming to my answer, I would like to divide it into two phases:

1. The Initial Launch
2. Over the Time Home Page

The reason is in the initial phase our focus should be completely on user acquisition as we dont have any users and the later phase it is both aquisition and retention.

Painpoints that Amazon should solve to establish the business in the new market:

1. Trust: Since it's new to the customers over there, They are not likely gonna buy and it would be hard for amazon to establish the business if they dont build it in the customers and also there are not gonna be reviews or ratings to get a validation as well
2. Speed and Quality over the competitors: Competitive pricing in addition to the speed of the delivery matter a lot in providing convinience to the customers
3. Less Inventory: As the comapany going to enter the market just, there are not going to be many sellers so there can be inventory problems as well.
4. Touch and feel experience: Users would be habituated to get things offline which let them touch and feel the products. This experience should be imitated in the online so that users will go for online shopping

So these are the painpoints i feel the painpoints amazon should take care of, do you think i missed anything or would you like to add anything?

Interviewer: "No they are fine, you can move ahead"

Sure!

The New Amazon Home Page Experience:
The Entire website expeirence should be very minimal and not overwhelm the users.

1. Call for Sellers and Delivery Shippers: So there is going to be a section on the home page where we ask the vendors to put the products that they wanna sell, this can help us build a good inventory and give more options to the users
2. Exclusive Deals: The Landing page is gonna be with the exclusive deals for the day showing off the discounts that amazon provide during the launch days and there will be countdown to let users know that these offers not gonna be for longtime
3. Layout: The top section will be filled with the electronics and the things for the young people as they should be the target audience for the initial phase of aquisition
4. Create FOMO: Showcase the number of goods that are being sold on the top of page or near the products which can make people hurry and buy the products.
5. Ad Banners: Ads with the local celebrities will help in building the trust and also can include few customer testimonials (of other geography) as well.
6. Search, Language Selector are some of the basic and standard features that we will include.

These are some of the ideas that i think we can incorporate in our home page. Any thoughts?

"Sounds fine to me"

Coming to the second phase of the Home Page - Over the time, we will give less improtance to the seller section, more to the products and the deals of the day.

Cool, This conclude my answer.
I will summarise the entire case...

Thank you
