The ask here is to build a product to help people during emergency. To start with what kind of emergency are we talking about here -
- Theft
- Medical
- Fire
- Pandemic
- Wars, etc.
Do we already have a similar product or partially supported feature?
Is this going to be a feature within the existing meta products or a completely new product?
Are we looking to build it for a specific geography?
Are we planning to launch mobile or web? Within mobile whether android or iOS?
What is the business goal here to build this product?
Assumptions
- You can decide the emergency type
- No, nothing exists fas of now
- Within existing product suite
- You can decide the geography
- You can decide the platform
- What do you think can be the goal here
Any new product, we should launch in a specific geography, gather feedback and then gradually scale gobally. So, we will restrict the geography to India here.
Since the product needs to handle emergencies, it should be highly portable and easy to carry and use, so the right platform would be a mobile app and since we are talking about India as the geography, where majority suers are android based, we will stick to building this product compatible with android phone users only.
Summarising the question, we need to build a brand new android mobile app based product within the existing meta product suite for India home users facing an emergency and need support to deal with the current situation.
Business goal
Since the product is going to be part of the meta product suite, the user base is going to remain the same, but it would be have an impact on the user engagement metrics. In addition to this, we can also monetise this product by building a premium service which users can avail on a paid basis and that will generate additional revenue for Meta.
Success Metrics:
Time-to-notify trusted contacts
Response rate to emergency alerts
Retention/use in drills or non-critical events
For the purpose of this discussion, we will restrict to medical related emergency only
- Users
- Adults
- Kids
- Senior citizens
- Pets
User persona -
- Family - Parents and kids staying at home, and somebody got hurt
- Kids only - Kids (5-10 yrs) only at home and they fall sick or meet an accident
- Senior citizens only - Elderly people staying at home alone
- Pets - Pets staying with owners, needing meidcal assistance
For this discussion, we will restrict the user persona to Kids along at home.
Pain points -
Kids don't know what medicines to take, which doctor/ clinic, etc. Without immediate guidance, things can become severe
Solutioning
- Emergency circle set up
- Send alert to emergency circle
- Able to talk to contacts through the app (audio/ video)
- Supports auto translation
- Able to do first aid - Connect with nearest pharmacy to get the necessary things
- Get AI voice chat support to ask for any questions
- Important videos, e.g, how to do first aid, soothing videos, etc.
Prioritisation based on Impact/ Effort
1. Low effort, high impact
2. Low effort, high impact
3. Medium effort, hig impact
4. High effort, medium impact
5. Medium effort, medium impact
6. Medium effort, low impact
Based on the above details, as part of the Core product offering, we should build the below features -
- Emergency circle set up
- Sending alerts
- Enable calling
- AI voice/ text chat
Key product metrics to track
- # new users signed up
- % who created their profile
- % users who have created emergency circle
- Avg response time post alert trigger
- % alerts with positive resolution
- WAU, MAU
- % users who have uninstalled the app after first use
GTM
- Alpha testing
- Feature marketing
- Beta testing
- Controlled rollout in one city
- Metrics monitoring
- Phased rollout
- Product improvements
Summary
I would build a emergency hadnling app for kids which will have the parents version as well to connect with kids. The app will be an android mobile app with a capability to add emergency contacts, send emergency alerts, make calls and provide important information as required by kids to perform the immediate next steps.
