I would like to follow the below structure to answer this question -
- Ask clarifying questions and making reasonale assumptions
- Define goals and hypotheses
- Identify the key metrics impacted
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to understant UX impact
- Compare similar competitive offerings and identify the gaps, if any
- Monitor key metrics to be tracked
- Make a list of pros/ cons based on the recent update
- Recommend the next steps
- Summarize the overall discussion
The question is quite generic in terms of updates in Apple's product lineup. In order to analyse the impact, we need to understand the changes made in more details. So, I would like to start with few clarifying questions -
- What are the list of changes made as part of the latest release by Apple?
- Feature changes
- Design changes
- Software changes
- Is it across all geographies or a specific geography?
- When did this change go live?
- Do we have any user feedback already post the changes went live?
- Do we have any business metrics regarding the latest phone variant?
Assumptions -
Changes made - Improved camera quality with AI and more sleek phones. as a result 20% price increase in the latest phones
The phone was launched 2 weeks back. Right now the latest phones are available only in the US market
We have few user reviews, mentioning the picture quality is exceptional but the phone battery dries up faster when camera is in use. Also, few users have expressed dissatisfaction with the price. This phone has an average user rating of 3.8
The sales have been pretty slow compared to the previous variant. Out of the overall sales, 80% users are first time users and 20% users already owned a iphone earlier
Goal - Improved camera features are more likely going to enhance the customer experience while attracting new users as well. So, the focus here is to capture more market base and generate more revenue
Analysing the metrics -
Quantitative -
Low sales indicate awareness is not great. Additionally, low number of existing customer purchases indicate low repeat buyers.
Qualitative -
Users have mentioned good picture quality which strongly resonates with the changes done, however frequent heating up of the device while taking images is a cause of concern as it increases the risk of phone getting damaged or causing accidents
Competitor analysis -
Companies like Samsung, OnePlus are already providing sleeker phones with excellent camera at lower prices. So, this doesn't seem to be a differentiating factor for the customers who want to purchase a costlier phone for same features
Key metrics to be tracked -
- # sales
- Market share growth
- % split between new and existing iOs users
- TIme spent on camera
- Reduction in customer care tickets ( especially related to device heating issue)
Recommendations -
Apple needs to check the device heat up issue and fix it sooner to expect more user sales. Additionally, they need to revisit their pricing strategy by either reducing the price or justify the price by adding more features
To summarise again, Applt launched a new phone variant which is sleek and has an excellent AI enabled camera. However, it has frequent heating issues which Apply needs to fix asap. Also, since these features are already available in market at lower prices, so Apple needs to revisit its pricing strategy as well,
