  2. Problem the Feature is Solving.
  3. Feature Goal.
  4. User Cohorts.
  5. Metrics Brainstorm.
  6. Specifying North Star Metrics.
  7. Specifying Secondary Metrics.

Feature Overview:

  • Uber's search map allows users to find and indicate their pickup and drop-off locations on a map.
  • Locations can be found by typing in an address into the search bar, and then confirming the location on the map, or by tapping the location directly on the map.
Problem the Feature is Solving:
  • Helps riders input their pickup and dropoof locations into the app, so that they can request the ride and the locations can be shown to the driver for navigation purposes.
Feature Goal:
  • Helps riders book a ride, and ultimately helps drivers to complete the ride.
User Cohorts:
  • Riders - who use the search map when requesting a ride.
  • Drivers - who use the locations inputed into the search map to complete the ride.
Metrics:
  • Activation:
    • Rider:
      • % of new riders who use the search map feature within 7 days or 30 days of account creation.
      • % of new riders who complete a ride within 7 days or 30 days of account creation.
      • Full ride booking funnel (starting a ride request -> using the search map to specific the locations -> payment info -> confirming the ride -> completing the trip -> leaving a review of the driver).
      • % of map searches conducted using the address text input vs % of searches conducted by clicking on the map directly.
      • Number of booked rides by day, week, month.
    • Driver:
      • % of new drivers completing a ride within 7 days or 30 days of account creation.
      • Full funnel for drivers completing a ride (accepting the ride -> navigation -> completing the ride).
    • Both:
      • Number of completed rides by day, week, month.
  • Retention:
    • Rider:
      • % of riders completing a booked ride, and then returning to completed another ride within a given usage interval.
    • Driver:
      • % of drivers completing a booked ride, and then returning to completed another ride within a given usage interval.
North Star Metrics:
  1. Number of completed rides by day, week, month.
  2. Full ride booking funnel (starting a ride request -> using the search map to specific the locations -> payment info -> confirming the ride -> completing the trip -> leaving a review of the driver).
Secondary Metrics:
  1. Number of booked rides by day, week, month.
