Slack as i understand is collaboration & communication platform designed for teams, companies & organizations. Slack extensions are designed to integrate with tools and services to make the platform more versatile such as project management, tracking, calendar, surveys etc. is my assumption correct? And the problem is 20% of slack extension users have dropped. Yes
First I would ask few clarifying questions:
When was this first detected? Is it something reported in last 24 hours
Can i know what kind of metric was impacted ? DAU, WAU, MAU
Is there any change in metrics how we reported earlier? No
Ok lets find out more on the impact of the problem
1. Is it global or specific to US?
2. Which platform is impacted?Desktop or Mobile
3. Any specific device (IOS vs. Android)
4. Which user groups: New sign ups- Who had just signed up in 24 hours? Existing users who had been using this feature ? This will also give us indication on kind of metric that got impacted. Engagement, Retention, Acquistion? Existing users.
5. Is it enterprise version or regular?
6.Did it impact paid subscribers or free
7.Do we know the absolute number that is impacted?
To iterate, 20% drop of slack extension users is global, impacting both platforms and for existing users for enterprise version & paid subscribers.
Now lets deep dive further more, in terms of what might have caused this issue. Lets first check if any internal factors that might have caused this:
1. Are there any recent features that were introduced?
2. Was there any bug in the system?
3. Any system outage?
Lets factor in external reasons that might have caused this:
1. Bad Press: Has there been any negative sentiment about slack in terms of integration issues with other tools or privacy issues?
2. Firmware introduced by other companies which are out of control?
3.Competition: There are other channels in the market and is there any market analysis that might have introduced new features or free services? Yes,
So we know the root cause of the problem. Do you want me to go further on this?
