Assuming that we are focusing on India
What are a washer and dryer?
It is a washing machine where users put in clothes and get washed using water and later they get dried
Increase sales and profit, as in?
I feel the question should be increase profit and not sales. Because that should be the end goal. If we think of increasing sales, it won't many any sense. As sales would depend only on the life of the washing machine and the growth rate. Let's assume the growth rate is very low like 5% and the average life of a washing machine is 10 years. So it would be really difficult to increase sales.
Thus the question should be to increase profit.
User Segment
Generally, washing machines are bought in a household and not individually and there are some commercial stores that provide the cleaning service.
-Household
-Commercial store
Population of India (1.4Bn)
Considering 4 people in one house which gives 350Mn households
Considering 60% of Indian households have washing machines which give 210Mn washing machines
And when we focus on commercial services that would be close to educational institutions
Considering there are 50K institutions in India and 90% of them have on an average 3 commercial services near their colleges which gives 135K
Considering each service have 3 washing machines which give 405K washing machines
Thus we need to focus on Indian households
User flow while using a washing machine-
Collect clothes->Put them inside the machine->Program machine (Mode+Water qty.)->Add washing powder/liquid->(Program Ends)->Remove the clothes from the machine->Put those close in the sunlight
Pain point
- Qty which can be washed in one batch is less
- Some clothes change color
- The drier mode doesn't 100% makes the clothes dry
The second pain point is widely faced
Solution
Clothes segregator which would segregate white clothes from colored clothes
This additional benefit has the potential for getting the users to pay the extra premium
