Should Google build a food delivery app?
Clarifying Questions:
- Will this app be centralised in the US or be available in all jurisdictions? You could focus on the US, however, the plan is to expand over time
- Who are the customers and who are the suppliers? The customers would be people wanting to purchase food and the suppliers would be food businesses on the app that the customer could buy from.
- Am I to assume that we have a large resource base? Yes
5. Is Google intending on being a platform that leverages customers and suppliers? Yes
6. Are we looking to make this a standalone app or could it be integrated into one of our products? You have freedom.
7. Is this an immediate plan by google or is this something that we are considering? Future
We need to first understand Google's mission. All of Google’s products subscribe to one general goal and that is to significantly improve the lives of as many people as possible
I think the next ideal step is to evaluate the food delivery market to understand how people are benefiting.
Google has announced about a year ago that it was going to create a VR landscape in Google Maps in the coming year, where people could navigate places, which fits our food delivery app potentially because you could possibly be reading off of the menu board while ordering from your phone, so you are guaranteed the customer experience. Further, with Google self-driving vehicles in the works, in the long term, you could potentially have safety with your food, knowing that it's being delivered safely to you. So, Google could potentially outperform its competitors with user experience and safety in the future, from its 1.2 Billion Google Maps users.
Customers want easy, timely and safe delivery of the food product.
I will start by looking at what other companies offer and what Google can potentially offer.
Companies | Other Food COmpanies | |
Strength | Self-driving cars to deliver food Easier VR navigation Very much cheaper
| Customer service plus Pay more for quicker |
Weaknesses | Subject to VR limitations Subject to Self-driving car limitation | Any person could opt to deliver food, and that is not safe
|
Evaluate Googles Strengths
| Impact to User | Revenue Impact | Implementation |
High | Medium | Low |
I think google can build a food delivery app given its technological leverage and its ability to ensure safe delivery. While there may be limitations they are not engraved in stone and could always be worked around.
