WHY?

First of all, we need to understand/ask why does Amazon want to design a TV in the first place? Is there a specific need in the market, or a problem has been identified? What could be the goal in designing a TV for Amazon?

Interviewer - You decide

ok. Is there any target market region for which the TV needs to be designed?

Interviewer - Let's take India for the discussion.

We know Amazon' mission is To be Earth's most customer centric company

ok. Let's say the goal for this TV is

Goal : To maximize the TV watching experience for a user

NSM: # Avg watch time per unit

WHO?

Let's define few user groups for whom we would want to build the TV for. For this discussion, I would like to limit to B2C users only

User Groups - Market Size - Pain/Problem Scope

1. OTT streamers - L - S

2. Online Gamers - M - L

3. Dish Cable Viewers - XL - S

4. Sports Shows viewer - M - S

Identifying the pain areas for online gamers. The gamers are mostly millennials in India aging from 16 to 30 years. Some of the problems that could be identified for them are:

U1. Connecting time with mobile phones for mirroring - Android/iOS

U2. Lag while mirroring with mobile

U3. Lower frame rate causes delays in gameplay when connected to gaming consoles and internet

U4. No TV profiles for custom saved settings

U5. Dependency on ethernet cable for best connection vs Wifi

U6. Distractions while playing a game (mobile phone calls, notifications, urge to change room fan or light settings)

U7. Inability to record gameplays and walkthroughs

WHAT?

Now, we will think of few features based on the pain areas above, map its impact to solving user pain, estimate development effort and also assess its impact to the overall goal of designing the TV

F1. Develop a mirroring technology that seamlessly mirrors any Android/iOS devices with zero lags and connects instantly with a push of a button. It could be built on top of prevalent technologies like AirPlay and Cast [U1 AND U2]

F2. Provide options to adjust the frame rate of TV from 60Hz to 240Hz [U3]

F3. Provide an option to auto-detect games and adjust the best frame rate in TV [U3]

F4. Option to create custom profiles in TV and save settings [U4]

F5. Provide latest inbuilt WiFi available for long range usage making it at par with ethernet cable performance [U5]

F6. Integrate Alexa into the TV that notifies of urgent calls or notifications only while playing games via game focus mode [U6]

F7. Alexa should be commanded while playing games to take a screenshot, do a video recording of gameplay or create a walkthrough [U7]

F8. A high resolution camera and mic needs to be provided to enable game player recordings [U8]
